The chip industry’s trade group drastically slashed its outlook for 2007 sales, citing severe declines in average prices of processors such as NAND flash. The Semiconductor Industry Association now expects worldwide microchip sales to grow 1.8 percent this year to $252 billion. Previously, the organization had predicted chip sales would grow 10 percent to $273.8 billion. The group also cut its longer-term outlook, saying that it expected industry sales to grow at an average annual rate of 5.4 percent a year from 2007 to 2010.
