Perhaps they’ve noticed that Warner’s deal has boded well or they’ve finally come around to free marketing? From the article, “EMI and YouTube have agreed to work together to develop ways in which EMI-owned recordings can be incorporated into user generated content by YouTube users. News of the deal comes just 10 days after EMI agreed to be taken over by private equity group Terra Firma for £2.4bn.” YouTube is slowing building a cadre of friends on the playground while Viacom continues to bully the new kid.”

Mister Inbetween writes “Google is rolling out a technology designed to overcome the major drawback faced by all web-based applications: the fact that they don’t work without an internet connection. Google Gears is an open source technology for creating offline web applications that is being launched today at Google’s annual Developer Day gatherings around the world.”

Today at the O’Reilly Where 2.0 Conference Google unveiled two new map features. An O’Reilly blogger describes Street View, which uses 360-degree street-level video from Immersive Media to enable neighborhood walk-throughs in (for now) a few selected areas. The other new feature is Mapplets, which let you embed Google Maps mashups in any Web page. Much more coverage is linked from TechMeme.

J Tomas writes “Google has quietly made its first anti-malware acquisition, snapping up GreenBorder Technologies, a venture-backed company that sells browser virtualization security software. GreenBorder’s software creates a DMZ (demilitarized zone) between the Windows desktop and programs downloaded from Web pages or opened from e-mail messages in Microsoft Outlook. The early speculation is that Google will add the sandbox technology to the Google Toolbar or release a rebranded version as a standalone download.”
