A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, a … company called Wizards of the Coast abandoned Star Wars fans who enjoyed their tabletop roleplaying game to an awful fate: product death. The Star Wars d20 product line, which saw print from 2000 to late 2004, attempted to capture the epic adventure that is the Star Wars setting within a simple quantifiable ruleset. Unfortunately, the d20 rules (circa 2000) were far too clumsy to make the RPG ‘feel’ like Star Wars. Even a 2002 Revised Core Rules book did little to create an intuitive play experience. Now, in time for the setting’s 30th anniversary, Wizards has released a brand new edition of the rules, marking a relaunch of the product line. An anonymous reader writes “Harvard University celebrated its 356th Commencement on Thursday. It is tradition at Harvard is to have an undergraduate deliver a Latin Salutatory address. This year’s speaker, Charles Joseph McNamara, delivered an address all about Star Wars in Latin! TheForce.net has a write-up of the event, and the speaker was really hilarious. He apparently doesn’t like Star Wars that much, but it’s still awesome. The video is available online, and you too can see him do a Yoda voice and make light-saber motions … in front of over 30,000 people. The speech is under “Morning Exercises” on the Harvard site. Ant writes “The official Star Wars site has up the one minute and 50 second trailer for the upcoming computer rendered Clone Wars.” I’m still not sold on the CG, but the models seem to be somewhat based on Genndy Tartakovsky’s designs from the original Clone Wars series. Wikipedia offers a bevy of details on the series.

Wired has a series of articles entitled The Empire at 30, and many fans are posting about this particular birthday. For example, you can see the best 30 clips made by fans to celebrate this anniversary. The BBC is chronicling the journey of one man who had never seen Star Wars before. IGN has a rundown on some of the highlights of the Celebration convention, running this weekend.”
